Hello. I am a newb. Yes, I am.
As you can see by my name I have magical powers, but nonetheless I need help.
I have been struggling with installing Gentoo when it gets to the step to compile the vanilla sources because gentoo does not come with iwconfig and therefore I cannot download the sources from the site. I have tried using the --pkg option (i forget exactly what it it is as its been about a week.) It was usepkg or something to that effect. It installs some and then requires a connection to the internet and tried to download files from a site and wont go any further.
Anyway, I have used Gentoo at a workstation with an ethernet card using a stage3 install and I'm preparing to move to a stage2 install and gain some more experience in it. Plus, the documentation during the install is a life saver but seems rather lacking with mention to installing gentoo on a wireless NIC.
I am using one of those ornico chipset wireless 802.11 cards that linux is famous for having trouble with. And that has been a major barrier for me and my experimentation with linux because i dont have the internet with linux. In any event, if someone knows how to add iwconfig to a gentoo iso, please tell me so that I can use it and then have a connection to my network during install. Sorry, I didn't have a lot of time to fully explain my question, but reading the forums you're all close to geniuses compared to me.
