I'm installing a new 2006.1 system with a 2005.0 live cd.
I bootwith the cd,get a stage2 from internet, and then a latest portage, following the install manual from the 2005.0 live cd.
everything is ok untile emerge hotplug.
I got an error said:

Hi all,

Hi all,

I have emerged azureus-bin and limewire

After i realized i had forgotten to emerge sun-jre-bin (for java) i tried to run them again -- no luck

If i issue the command "source /etc/profile" they run each time, BUT i have to run this command EACH TIME and always from the command line.. I am a bit new to linux/gentoo and need to know how i can automatically run source /etc/profile.

All help appreciated,

Hello. I am a newb. Yes, I am. Hello. I am a newb. Yes, I am. :)

As you can see by my name I have magical powers, but nonetheless I need help.

I have been struggling with installing Gentoo when it gets to the step to compile the vanilla sources because gentoo does not come with iwconfig and therefore I cannot download the sources from the site. I have tried using the --pkg option (i forget exactly what it it is as its been about a week.) It was usepkg or something to that effect. It installs some and then requires a connection to the internet and tried to download files from a site and wont go any further.

Anyway, I have used Gentoo at a workstation with an ethernet card using a stage3 install and I'm preparing to move to a stage2 install and gain some more experience in it. Plus, the documentation during the install is a life saver but seems rather lacking with mention to installing gentoo on a wireless NIC.

I am using one of those ornico chipset wireless 802.11 cards that linux is famous for having trouble with. And that has been a major barrier for me and my experimentation with linux because i dont have the internet with linux. In any event, if someone knows how to add iwconfig to a gentoo iso, please tell me so that I can use it and then have a connection to my network during install. Sorry, I didn't have a lot of time to fully explain my question, but reading the forums you're all close to geniuses compared to me.

Is there a way to run the RUNE windows version CD on Linux?

I do not want to run it through wine but was wondering if an installer is available.

I have installed a parallel kernel from mm-sources...

I have installed a parallel kernel from mm-sources-2.5.74-r2. I am having problems with creating additional virtual terminals (PTYS) from SSH, XTERM, MULTI_GNOME-TERM, to name a few.

SSH Error (after authentication):
Server refused to allocate pty

MULTI-GNOME-TERMINAL error:
Something about UNIX98 PTYS, glibc 2.2, etc, etc, etc.

I really need some guidance. I have tried with UNIX98 turned on and off in the kernel. I have allocated 1024 (up from 256) virtual terminals in the kernel.

Thanks!

Hello.

I have an suse-linux up and ...

Hello.

I have an suse-linux up and running, and a partition left, which I'd like to use for a gentoo install. I assume I can use the swap partition for both systems, and leave at it is. Unfortunatly I don't have a boot partition, my first partition is a primary fat32. Can I just delete this partition, create a extended one, with three logical partitions: One boot for suse, one boot for gentoo, and the leftover to reinstall WinME ? Main objective is to keep the old suse-system stable.

Here's my partition table:
Ger?t boot. Anfang Ende Bl?cke Id Dateisystemtyp
/dev/hda1 * 1 510 4096543+ b Win95 FAT32
/dev/hda2 511 1555 8393962+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda3 1556 4866 26595607+ 5 Erweiterte
/dev/hda5 1556 1621 530113+ 82 Linux Swap
/dev/hda6 1622 3188 12586896 c Win95 FAT32 (LBA)
/dev/hda7 3189 4866 13478503+ 83 Linux

Help is appreciated.

Greets,
Frank.

How can the system be setup so that when I enter ...

How can the system be setup so that when I enter su in a terminal window it will automatically switch to root without asking for a password? The su without password could be done with /etc/suauth, but is there another way? I saw these on an installation of Vector Linux SOHO and wondered how to do it under Gentoo. Also, when su is entered a very nice welcome message is printed out. Does anyone know how to do this? I realize it is VERY unsecure, but I am the ONLY user on my home box, behind a firewall.

Thanks for any info.

Hey look at this article for Hey look at this article for more
I am sure that if it becomes successful then it will also help the linux community as whole as its all about sharing.
Also as the users grow and gain expirience they are bound to be attracted by more advanced distros like gentoo.

Hey

!!! File is corrupt or incomplete. (Digests do not match)
>>> our recorded digest: d5c*******
>>> your file's digest: 7eb********
!!! File does not exist: /usr/portage/disfiles//XFree86-4.3.0-patches-2.1.25.6.tar.bz2

Wie kann ich das wieder grade biegen?
Oder sollte ich gleich XOrg benutzen? Was fuer Nachteile bzw.
