Moin,
happy gentooing, pir187!

Hi,
I want a way to logon to my Gentoo Linux box and do some work on it... I am trying to a avoid VNC because someone might beon the termianl as well... So exceed sounds to be the way to go, if it fail then I will see how to setup VNC for remote control.
If exceed, can anyone tell me what I need to do to setup exceed? I went to Xclient start and I put the IP and user info but I didn't know what to put in the command... Also, do I need anything setup in Linux xrog for this?
Thanks...
I just got Gentoo installed on my 2nd computer yesterday, a Shuttle SS51G. The install went without a hitch and everything was working great, until I rebooted for the first time. When it booted and Gentoo started loading the daemons, I noticed that the hard drive would pause for about 5 seconds, drive LED on, but no actvity. I thought this was just a glitch and proceeded on. I started to emerge my packages, but found that when there was disk activity, the hard drive would do this pause, continue, pause thing, alternating every 5 seconds. I used the gentoo-sources to build my kernel, so I decided to use a plain vanilla source, with no extra drivers built in to avoid problems. Unfortunately, I still get the same problem. The hard drive will start accessing, then an audible click noise, then it pauses for 5 seconds, then it continues, clicks, pauses... etc. I would normall just say the hard drive is failing or is bad, but I reformatted to check to see if WinXP does the same thing, and it DOESNT. As a matter of fact XP runs great with hardly any noise from the hard drive at all. So, this seems like a Gentoo problem or Linux problem. Anybody know what's going on here?
Hallo zusammen,

I've just did an emerge rsync succesfully,
now i have to do this:
<quote>
Now that you have a working copy of the Portage tree, people using stage1 to
install will need to bootstrap their Gentoo Linux system as follows. First edit
the file /etc/make.conf. In this file, you should set your USE flags, which
specify optional functionality that you would like to be built into packages;
generally, the defaults (an empty or unset USE variable) are fine. You also
should set appropriate CHOST, CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS settings for the kind of
system that you are creating (commented examples can be found further down in
the file.) If necessary, you can also set proxy information here if you are
behind a firewall.
Code listing 18
# nano -w /etc/make.conf (Adjust these settings)
</quote>
I have a Pentium 200 MMX, do I need to make any changes to the make.conf file?
This is my second attempt, last time my system kept rebooting after fully
installng, last time I uncommented
these lines:
chost ="586-pc-linux-gnu"
cflags="-march=i586 -03 -pipe"
cxxflags="-march=i586 -03 -pipe"
I think I forgot to set the USE variable the last time.
Is this correct?
USE="CHOST CFLAGS CXXFLAGS"

Hi. I'm thinking about installing Vida Linux OS. Have any of you used this OS and could compare to Gentoo and other distros (ATM I'm using Fedora Core 4)? Is it worth using or if I'm thinking about smth emerge-oriented I should rather use Gentoo ?
Thx for help

USE="X alsa apm arts audiofile avi bash-completion bluetooth cdr cups dbase dio divx4linux doc dv dvd dvdr dvdread encode fastcgi fbcon ffmpeg foomaitcdb ftp gphoto2 java javascript jpeg kde lm_sensors mad maildir mikmod mmx mp3 mpeg ogg oggvorbis opengl pdflib perl png qt quicktime samba scanner socketssse tiff truetype usbv4l vcd videos wmf xine xinerama xml xml2 xmms xpm xprint xvid amd64 -gtk -gtk2 -gnome"
Grazie.
